As reported by 9News, the city of Denver would put these cameras in to track stolen cars.
Denver police are hopeful that more than 100 license plate reader cameras could help them in their struggle to track and recover stolen cars. The city has seen a large uptick in reported car thefts over the past five years.
While the city released a list of 60 proposed locations for the new reader cameras, the expectation is that 111 automatic license plate reader cameras – which will cost $339,000 – will be installed by the end of summer.
Denver car thefts were up to 12,125 last year from 5,233 in 2019.
