Denver City Council votes ‘yes’ to ban on sugary drinks with kids meal

Mar 27, 2024, 3:01 PM | Updated: 7:44 pm

For the last few weeks a lot of people on both sides of the fence have gotten pretty heated about the possibility that the City of Denver could ban sugary drinks from kids meals… Well, like it or not, it’s about to happen!

The Denver City Council approved a bill that requires water or unflavored milk and milk substitutes (almond and oat milk) to be listed as the free option in a kids meal.

Restaurants won’t be required to get rid of sugary drinks like soda and juice, they just won’t offer it as the “free” option to be bundled in with a kids meal.

Denver joins metro-area cities Lafayette, Longmont and Golden in having ordinances governing drink options for kids.
