Country performers retiring from touring in 2024 | Music City Minute

Dec 4, 2024, 3:26 PM | Updated: 3:33 pm

As 2024 winds down for good, so will the full-time touring careers of several high-profile country performers. Here is a list of artists gearing up for retirement from life on the road. First up is Doug Stone, who said it’s time to come off the road and have a home life to raise his seven-year-old daughter. Country comedian Ray Stevens has been preforming since he was 15 years old. Now at 85, he’s ready to slow down. “I Swear” singer John Michael Montgomery is also stepping back from the road life. Lee Greenwood cited multiple health reasons for his retirement. After nearly six decades of touring, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are scaling back their schedule. Retirement is at hand for The Oakridge Boys, who have suffered several losses over the last year, including singer Joe Bonsall. Last but not least is Alan Jackson. After 30 years of touring and multiple health issues that make it difficult for him to perform, he’s ready to enjoy his twilight years with his family.
