Colorado snowplow drivers line up on I-70 to stop high speed chase

I already consider Colorado’s snowplow drivers heroes for working to keep us safe on the roads, but this is going above and beyond…

On Thursday night, a dramatic police pursuit on Interstate 70 in Colorado ended when a line of snowplow drivers helped stop a fleeing suspect. According to the Idaho Springs Police Department, the chase began around 11:30 p.m. when an officer noticed a car with a broken taillight. After running the car’s plates, the officer discovered it was stolen and linked to a robbery earlier that week. The officer then tried to stop the car, but the driver refused to pull over.

Law enforcement teams from multiple agencies joined the pursuit and attempted various tactics to stop the vehicle, which all proved unsuccessful. As the chase continued, three snowplows traveling eastbound on I-70 noticed the situation and coordinated to block all lanes. Dashboard camera footage shows the suspect trying to get around the plows before ultimately coming to a stop behind them.

The suspect, a 27-year-old Denver man, was the lone occupant of the car and surrendered without further incident. Police reported no injuries during the pursuit, though a deputy’s car did sustain minor damage. When searching the vehicle, authorities found burglary tools, alcohol, and drug paraphernalia. The suspect admitted to being under the influence and to scouting businesses to steal from. He was arrested on multiple new charges, including vehicular eluding, DUI, and possession of burglary tools, as well as two active warrants for trespassing and shoplifting.
