Colorado now has an indoor surfing spot and it’s basically the Topgolf of waves

Two words you never thought you’d hear together: surfing and Colorado. And yet, here we are. Surf Shack, a $3.8 million, 12,000-square-foot indoor surfing facility, is now open on the north side of Colorado Springs, and it’s essentially the Topgolf of surfing: show up, grab a board (they’re free), ride a wave, eat some food, have a drink, and pretend the nearest ocean isn’t a thousand miles away.

The centerpiece is a “double” FlowRider wave machine that simulates ocean-style waves and can accommodate two riders at a time, roughly 20 to 30 surfers per hour. Sessions start at $40, boards and a safety briefing are included, and ages six and up are welcome. No experience required, which is good, because this is Colorado and most of us have never touched a surfboard that wasn’t decorating a restaurant wall. But Surf Shack isn’t just a wave machine, the two-story facility also includes a second-level sauna, a hot tub, two outdoor sand volleyball courts, a spacious patio, tiki-themed cocktails and food, conference and party rooms, and locker rooms. You can rent the entire wave for private events starting at $650, and there’s even a Thursday league night if you want to get competitive about it.

Located at 13208 Touchstone View in the Polaris Point area, literally next to Topgolf, which makes the comparison almost too easy, Surf Shack has been in the works since 2024 and soft-opened at the end of July, with a grand opening planned for September. The facility is also a perfect training ground for Colorado’s growing river surfing scene, giving riders a chance to work on their skills year-round regardless of weather.
