If you believe that social media, and overall device addiction may be the downfall of our society, you are not alone. Maybe this will help…
Colorado has joined a growing number of states that want legal age restrictions when it comes to social media and app use for minors.
Legislators have introduced SB26-051, which is similar to a bill recently passed in California, set to go into effect in 2027. The law will require operating system providers like Apple, Microsoft & Google to verify the age of a user as opposed to leaving that to individual apps.
Age verification is set up at first on a device, and then the user is placed within a certain age bracket. From there, app downloads can be restricted based on how old the user is. There are also said to be safeguards in place in the event someone might be lying about their age, and penalties can be substantial for companies that don’t comply.
