Colorado Avalanche honor Quebec roots with ‘Heritage Series’ jerseys

Oct 21, 2025, 10:12 AM | Updated: 10:50 am

It’s been 30 years since the Quebec Nordiques relocated to Denver and became the Colorado Avalanche — and this morning, the Avs unveiled a special-edition jersey for the 2025–26 season, paying tribute to the franchise’s Quebec heritage.

The all-blue jersey, dubbed the “Heritage Series,” is a nod to the original Nordiques. Inspired by the French flag, the blue, red and white design symbolizes the province’s French-Canadian roots. Social media has been buzzing for weeks as the team teased the release with locker-room nameplates featuring the Nordiques logo. Players even wore the “Heritage Series” pants during morning skate before Saturday’s 4–1 win over the Boston Bruins.

Fans have called it “the worst-kept secret,” but that hasn’t dampened excitement — many can’t wait to get their hands on such a meaningful piece of Avalanche history.

Since moving to Denver in the summer of 1995, the Avalanche have lifted the Stanley Cup three times — in their inaugural 1995–96 season, again in 2001 and most recently in 2022. Now, the Avs look poised for another deep playoff run. After six games, they sit atop the Central Division with a 5-0-1 record and momentum building early in the season.

The team will debut the new “Heritage Series” jerseys Thursday night at Ball Arena when they face off against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Avalanche will wear the alternate look seven times this season. Fans can purchase the jerseys beginning today at 10 a.m. online via the team’s official store, or starting at noon at the Ball Arena Team Store.
