CMTs announce top six nominees for Best Video of the Year

Apr 1, 2024, 4:52 PM | Updated: Apr 5, 2024, 11:45 am

The CMT Music Awards’ Video of the Year finalists were revealed Monday, April 1, after the first round of voting closed. Six artists made the cut: Ashley McBryde with “Light on in the Kitchen,” HARDY with “Truck Bed,” Cody Johnson with “The Painter,” Jelly Roll with “Need a Favor,” Kelsea Ballerini with “IF YOU GO DOWN (I’M GOIN’ DOWN TOO)” and Lainey Wilson with “Watermelon Moonshine.” The latter four are all nominated in three categories, McBryde and HARDY in two. None of the finalists have won the award in past years.

Not only is Ballerini up for multiple awards (Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year), she’s also hosting the show for the fourth year in a row. Unlike the past three years where she’s hosted alongside Kane Brown, Ballerini will emcee the event solo. Returning to the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, for the second year, this will be the CMT Music Awards’ second year away from Nashville, Tenn.

Revealed on March 13, the Video of the Year category was originally composed of 16 nominees. Brandy Clark and Brandi Carlile’s “Dear Insecurity,” Brothers Osborne’s “Nobody’s Nobody,” Darius Rucker’s “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” Jason Aldean’s “Let Your Boys Be Country,” Jordan Davis’ “Next Thing You Know,” Kacey Musgraves’ “Deeper Well,” Mickey Guyton and Kane Brown’s “Nothing Compares to You,” Parmalee’s “Gonna Love You,” Tyler Childers’ “In Your Love” and Zach Bryan’s “Nine Ball” did not make the cut.

The next round of voting will end the day of the awards, narrowing the pool down to the top three, and voting will remain open until the show begins.

Notably excluded from the coveted category is Carrie Underwood, the winningest CMT Music Awards artist with 25 awards. The last time the singer didn’t make the nominations list was 2006. She has won the category ten times.

The fan-voted live event will air on CBS — its third year with on the network — at 6 p.m. MT.
