Chipotle’s long-lost margarita is coming back, and Denver is one of just five cities getting it

Denver, the margarita is back from the dead, and it’s coming home first. Chipotle is bringing back its long-lost margarita for a limited five-city Halloween tour, and the first stop is this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 2 & 3 )right here in the city where the burrito chain was born.

The “Summon the Spirits Tour” hits the Chipotle at 2760 S. Colorado Blvd. on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 3 to 9 p.m. both days. Chipotle is calling the Denver stop “Where the Spirit Began,” which fits, since the chain first started pouring margaritas at its Denver restaurant back in 1993. Guests 21 and older can get the classic Chipotle margarita for $6. It’s made with five ingredients: premium tequila, triple sec, citrus juice, agave nectar and a fresh lime wedge. Part of the restaurant will be turned into a pop-up with a dedicated margarita bar, spooky Halloween décor, interactive photo spots and chances to win Chipotle prizes.

If you’ve been missing this drink, you’re not alone. Chipotle quietly phased out its margaritas around 2020, reportedly because of high ingredient costs, changing liquor license rules and liability concerns. Fans have been begging for a comeback ever since, posting nostalgic TikToks with comments like “those margs were fireee” and “I really grew up in the wrong era.” Chipotle finally listened, but only for one weekend per city.

After Denver, the tour heads to Brooklyn (Oct. 9-10), Dallas (Oct. 16-17), Los Angeles (Oct. 23-24) and finally New Orleans for a Halloween weekend finale (Oct. 30-31). Dallas gets a frozen version of the margarita, which feels a little unfair. Then on Oct. 31, Chipotle’s annual Boorito deal returns with an in-restaurant entrée offer. The company says more Boorito details are coming later in October.
