When it comes to basketball, there’s no one that is more “Colorado” than Chauncey Billups. He grew up in Denver, played in high school at George Washington, then went to the University of Colorado before a professional career that included two stints with the Denver Nuggets. Sadly though, Thursday was not a good day for Mr. Billups.
Billups was arrested by the FBI and is facing federal charges in connection with a scheme involving rigged poker games.
Now the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, Billups was arrested Thursday along with more than 30 other people in two criminal cases alleging sprawling separate schemes to rake in millions by rigging sports bets and poker games involving Mafia families, authorities said. Billups was charged with participating in a conspiracy to fix high-stakes card games in Las Vegas, Miami, Manhattan and the Hamptons that were backed by La Cosa Nostra crime families.
He has been placed on leave from the Trail Blazers, according to the NBA.
