Bride Treats Homeless People To Her Called Off Wedding Dinner

An Indiana woman who called off her wedding just a week before the big day, still ended up having her reception … just with a much different guest list.

25-year-old Sarah Cummins planned a big party for 170 people and paid the $30,000 non-refundable booking fee. But a week before the July 15th wedding, she decided not to go through with it. She called all of her guests to let them know that the wedding was off. But she and her fiance were still on the hook for the cost of the reception.

So rather than letting the money go to waste, they both agreed to let the party go on as scheduled, and they would invite dozens of homeless people to enjoy a huge feast. Once word got out about it, some area businesses got in on the act and donated dresses and suits so that the guests could go in style.

One homeless man who attended the party said, “She took a time of her life where she was really sad and kind of lost, and turned it into such a teachable moment for people who are less fortunate. It was an opportunity for us to keep our eyes and our heads up. To realize that there is still an opportunity for us, that life does exist and revolve outside of homelessness and where we are in life right now.”

After the party, Cummins took her honeymoon to the Dominican Republican and took her mother along.
