BREAKING: Broncos sign General Manager George Paton to a new five-year contract through 2030

May 8, 2026, 11:37 AM | Updated: 11:51 am

One of the biggest offseason questions surrounding the Denver Broncos has officially been answered: the team announced Friday that general manager George Paton has signed a new five-year contract extension that will keep him in Denver through the 2030 season.

The Broncos entered the offseason with several major storylines, including Bo Nix’s ankle injury and Paton entering the final year of his contract. Paton joined the organization in 2021 after spending 14 seasons with the Minnesota Vikings organization.

Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner announced the extension Friday, praising Paton’s leadership and partnership with head coach Sean Payton.

“We are pleased to announce a new five-year contract for George Paton that reflects our confidence in his leadership, vision and the overall direction of our team. As our general manager, George has demonstrated a strong commitment toward building a winning roster while forming a collaborative and supportive partnership with Sean Payton. I’ve enjoyed working with George over the last four seasons and appreciate the alignment we share in positioning the Broncos for sustained success,” Penner added.

Since arriving in Denver, Paton has played a major role in reshaping the Broncos roster alongside the Walton-Penner ownership group and Payton. The team has now reached the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, including a trip to this year’s AFC Championship Game.

Paton has also helped acquire, draft and retain several key pieces of the Broncos’ core, including Nix, Patrick Surtain II, Talanoa Hufanga, Marvin Mims Jr. and more.
