Arc Thrift Stores to open first outlet in Denver, everything will be sold by weight

If you’ve ever left an Arc Thrift Store thinking “I can’t believe that vintage Carhartt jacket was $18,” get ready, because Arc is about to change the math entirely.
Arc Thrift Stores announced it’s opening its first-ever outlet store in Denver on Monday, Oct. 5, at 255 S. Hooker St. near West Alameda Avenue. The location, which previously operated as a regular Arc Thrift, has been temporarily closed while it transforms into a full bins-style outlet, and it’s bringing a pricing model that’s going to make thrift regulars lose their minds. Instead of individual price tags on every item, the new Arc Thrift Stores Outlet sells by the pound. Here’s how it breaks down:
- Clothing, shoes, purses, accessories and hats: $1.99 per pound
- Housewares, kitchen goods, small appliances, bed and bath items and fabric: $0.99 per pound
- Books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, records and stuffed animals: $0.25 each
- Furniture: $5 (small/red tag), $10 (medium/white tag), $15 (large/blue tag)
To put that in perspective: a pair of jeans weighs about a pound. A winter coat, maybe two or three. That means you could theoretically walk out with a full outfit, jacket, jeans, shoes, a hat, for under $10. All sales are final, no exceptions, no discounts on top. You dig, you weigh, you pay. That’s the deal. The store will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and shoppers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult over 18. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick things off at 8:30 a.m. on opening day.
If the concept sounds familiar, it’s because Goodwill has been running outlet stores in Colorado for years, they currently have four in Denver, Aurora, Englewood and Colorado Springs. But this is Arc’s first crack at the format, and for Colorado’s thrifting community, more competition means more treasure hunting. Arc operates 38 retail locations across the state and has been part of Colorado communities for more than 50 years, with store proceeds funding programs that advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. So not only are you getting a winter coat for $4, you’re doing it for a good cause.
