Denver’s most popular dog and cat names of 2026

If you yell “Luna!” at a Denver dog park, expect a lot of heads to turn. Rover’s 2026 pet name report says Luna is now the most popular name for both dogs and cats in Denver. It’s a clean sweep for the moon.
Here’s the top five for Denver dogs:

- Charlie
- Bella
- Daisy
- Penny
Luna knocked Charlie out of the top spot after he led Denver’s dog list last year. Penny is the new face in the top five, replacing Cooper and Milo. On the cat side, Luna held onto No. 1 for another year, followed by Charlie, Oliver, Cleo and Leo. Lucy, George and Honey all dropped out of the top five, so those cats may need some extra treats.
The trending names are where it gets fun. The fastest-rising dog names in Denver are Grace, Cairo and Scottie, and Grace is up a whopping 456%. For cats, Cheeto, Duckie and Junie are all up 527%. So somewhere in Denver, a cat named Cheeto is probably knocking a glass off the counter right now.
Denver pet owners also leaned into what the city does best. Outdoorsy names like Spruce, Powder, Summit, Cedar and Sage are on the rise, along with Avalanche, which works for both mountain lovers and hockey fans. Local sports and music inspired names too, including Thunder, Banjo and Nugget, perfect for a pup who’s a big Jokić fan or just a little fluffy snack. If you’re getting a new pet this year, you can’t go wrong with Luna. Your dog might just end up sharing that name with half the neighborhood.
