Denver’s driverless cars have already taken a wrong turn into a farmers market. Now they’re getting breakfast thrown at them. A Waymo passenger filmed a man throwing eggs at his robotaxi a few blocks south of Civic Center Park, and the video has spread online.
Jeff Hunley called the Waymo on Sept. 24 for a ride from 11th Avenue and Acoma Street to Union Station. Shortly after he got in, an egg hit the side of the car. “My first thought was, was that meant for me? Did it just fall from somewhere nearby,” Hunley told FOX31. It was meant for him. The other driver circled back, chased the Waymo and pulled in front of it at 11th and Broadway. Then he got out with a full carton and walked around the car throwing more eggs before driving off.
Hunley said he was a little scared at first. After that, the ride turned into a parade. “The whole journey after the egg, everyone was completely smiling, laughing, taking video of the car all the way to Union Station,” he said. The Waymo had no driver to roll down a window and yell back, so it just kept going, dripping yolk the whole way downtown. Hunley isn’t sure what set the man off, but he said the attack wasn’t warranted.
