Spooky season is in full effect and a prop from one of the most legendary horror movies, The Shining, will soon be on auction, and that is Jack Nicholson’s iconic axe!
The Shining was a horror film released in 1980 based on the 1977 Stephen King novel and featured Jack Nicholson, Shelly Duval and Danny Lloyd and the story was heavily inspired by Estes Park, Colorado’s own The Stanley Hotel.
Jack Nicholson, who throughout the movie spirals further down into a psychotic breakdown, famously chases his family with an axe in iconic scenes that are highlighted even today in Horror lore.
The auction house Bonhams in London will feature the axe, valued between $45,000-$60,0000, and hundreds of other items from the director of the film, Stanley Kubrick’s, personal archive. This will include the two dresses worn by the twin sisters in the movie, a clapperboard used in the film, and even items from other films of his, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey.
