Possible severe weather Friday: what concertgoers in Denver need to know

May 26, 2026, 4:27 PM | Updated: May 27, 2026, 11:49 am

As Denver gets ready to kick off the summer with one of the biggest concerts of the year, Friday night, Morgan Wallen at Empower Field at Mile High, the weather may put a small wrinkle in those plans.

From our friends at the 9NEWS Weather Impact Team, meteorologist Chris Bianchi let concertgoers know in a short video today about the possibility of rain and severe weather headed into the Denver metro area Friday night. “The culprit is an upper-level low-pressure system spinning to the west of Colorado,” Bianchi said. “That gets closest to us on Friday, that’s the way it looks right now based on the computer forecast models.”

With Morgan Wallen set to take the stage Friday night alongside Brooks & Dunn and more, the weather will be on the top of everyone’s mind. Friday is already being forecast as the warmest day of the week, with a high of 85 degrees.

Denver country music fans will remember the last time Morgan Wallen took the stage at Empower Field in June of 2024, when Jon Pardi’s set was cut short after a wind and rainstorm rolled in just four songs into his performance, causing a 60-plus-minute delay before Wallen hit the stage. He did perform his full set, and the rain stayed away long enough for fans to enjoy the show without further interruptions.

But what does this mean for you if you’re headed to the show Friday night? “Keep a close eye on that forecast because it could be quite stormy on Friday afternoon and Friday night if you’re going to any of those concerts,” Bianchi said, adding that he will continue to update concertgoers as the forecast gets clearer throughout the week.
