LOOK – Water World building Denver’s first drop-capsule water slide

Apr 29, 2026, 3:53 PM

The countdown ends. The floor drops out. And you plummet.

Water World, Colorado’s largest water park, is building Denver’s first drop-capsule water slide as the centerpiece of a new attraction area called “Summit Canyon,” set to debut this summer.

The slide, called Aspen Falls, starts atop a 60-foot tower — the tallest point in the park — where riders step into an enclosed vertical capsule. After a countdown, the floor beneath them gives way, sending them plunging down more than 400 feet of slide in what the park describes as a mountain-waterfall freefall.

“Summit Canyon will offer something for everyone with unique thrill rides and spaces for children to play while parents relax,” said Bob Owens, Water World’s deputy director of enterprise services.

Aspen Falls is one of four waterslides launching from the new Lookout Tower structure. The full lineup:

  • Aspen Falls — The drop-capsule body slide. Denver’s only ride of its kind, featuring the floor-drop launch into more than 400 feet of enclosed slide.
  • Columbine Cascade — A high-speed body slide inspired by Colorado’s state flower, with bold turns the park says “is no walk in the meadow.”
  • Marmot Mayhem — A two-person tube ride described as the only one of its kind in Colorado, featuring spinning turns, twisting tunnels and two enclosed helixes.
  • Runoff Rapids — Details on this fourth slide have been more limited in park materials to date.

All four slides launch from the Lookout Tower, which the park says will be the highest point at Water World.

Beyond the thrill rides, the expansion includes:

  • Critter Cove — A children’s area with pools up to two feet deep, spray-play features and pint-sized slides.
  • Creekside Crossing — An activity zone with an obstacle course and in-water basketball hoops.
  • Emerald Lake — A tranquil pool area for visitors looking to relax.

The park has also teased new food and beverage options, cabanas, shelters and special events tied to the Summit Canyon area, with additional details expected in the coming weeks.

Colorado outdoors as theme

The entire Summit Canyon zone is themed around Colorado’s natural landscape, with ride names and design elements drawn from the state’s wildlife, wildflowers and mountain terrain.

Construction is currently underway and the area is scheduled to open during the 2026 summer season. Season passes are on sale at waterworldcolorado.com.
