Drink from a dog bowl, get a free beer: Dog-themed dive bar set to open in downtown Denver

A new downtown bar is betting that folks in Denver love their dogs enough to drink like one.
Two Lazy Dogs Bar & Grill, a canine-themed dive bar opening soon in Denver’s Central Business District, will offer a standing weekly promotion: every Thursday, guests who agree to drink their beer out of a branded dog bowl get it free.
The bar is moving into 2,500 square feet at 1531 Champa St., the former home of Cheba Hut, a toasted-sandwich chain that closed in May 2024 when its lease expired.
The bar had originally targeted an April 27 grand opening but has postponed due to unspecified issues. A new date has not been set.
Beyond the dog-bowl stunt, Two Lazy Dogs is designed as a straightforward, affordable neighborhood dive. The bar features free pool, darts, foosball and arcade games, plus a TouchTunes jukebox for patrons who want to control the soundtrack.
The food menu leans on classic bar fare — burgers, smoked wings, tacos and other items — with most priced at or around $10. The drink menu includes beer, shots and cocktails, along with a mocktail option. Hours will run Sunday through Wednesday until midnight and Thursday through Saturday until 2 a.m.
