A notoriously haunted mansion in Denver is now available for lease as luxury apartments

If you don’t mind a phantom roommate or two you can now live in one of Denver’s most famous mansions!

A notoriously haunted 1880’s mansion in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood is no longer just a stop on ghost tours. It’s now open for tenants.

The Peabody-Whitehead Mansion at 1128 Grant St. has been converted into eight luxury apartments after a 13-year, multimillion-dollar restoration by owner Ira Wertenteil and his wife, Cindy Powers, who bought the property on Halloween 2013.

Two- and three-bedroom units range from roughly $3,200 to $3,800 a month for about 800 to 1,300 square feet. The apartments feature modern kitchens, hardwood floors, in-unit washers and one off-street parking space.

The mansion was built in 1889 and designed by architect Frank E. Edbrooke, who also designed the Brown Palace Hotel. Over more than a century, it served as a boarding house, nightclub, restaurant and clerical office. It has been a Denver landmark since 1993.

The building’s haunted reputation stems from reports of multiple deaths on the property over the decades, along with accounts of flickering lights, books flying off shelves and ghostly apparitions.
