One night before bed this week I was scrolling Netflix for something to watch and I stumbled on a new stand-up comedy special from a guy I hadn’t heard of yet. Now Derrick Stroup is a favorite of mine, and it’s not just because he spent a decade in Denver.
Stroup, originally from Alabama, known for his Southern charm, spent ten years based in Denver as a regular headliner at the legendary Comedy Works. Since, he’s been on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and has shared the stage with comedy superstars like Bert Kreischer and Nate Bargatze.
The new special, “Nostalgic” has been in Netflix’s “Top 10” movies all week. In it he talks a lot about his time in Denver along with his upbringing in Alabama and now living in New York City. He also really leans into growing up in the 80’s and 90’s.
I’m not saying the show is appropriate for kids, but one of the unique things about Stoup is he doesn’t curse. So whether you remember him from a show in Denver, or you’d never heard of him like me, I recommend checking out the special!
