If you need a reason to get excited for the Olympics that officially start on Friday (Feb. 6), Colorado native Lindsey Vonn is a good one!
The Vail, Colorado native has already won three Olympic medals in her four appearances at the games, but in her fifth Olympics she could become the oldest gold medalist in Winter Olympics history at 41-years-old.
That story was already pretty neat, but now she ruptured her left anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL, in a crash last week. Despite the major injury, Vonn confirmed Tuesday (Feb. 3) that she still plans to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Vonn is set to compete in the women’s downhill on Sunday, Feb. 8. Vonn was also planning on competing in super-G and the new team combined event.
Women’s skiing at the Olympics will be held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, where Vonn holds the record of 12 World Cup wins.
