Sometimes the worst news brings out the best in humanity, and that’s exactly what happened recently at a Colorado hospital.
Staff members at HCA HealthOne Swedish in Englewood organized a free wedding ceremony for a couple whose 11-year relationship was suddenly cut short when the bride received a devastating cancer diagnosis.
Aliana and Bailey Gleason got married after medical staff learned of their engagement, which occurred just two days before the ceremony. Aliana is being treated for a rare sarcoma that has spread to her spine, with limited treatment options available.
The couple had long planned to get married, but they delayed their wedding until they could afford their ideal celebration. The recent medical developments prompted the couple to reconsider their timeline.
When hospital staff learned of the engagement, they decided to provide the wedding as a gift to the couple.
Aliana expressed gratitude for the hospital staff’s gesture saying, “I’m just blown away. It was amazing and made me feel really supported and see the goodness in people, besides just the few I know are good.”
The couple also has a GoFundMe setup to help with medical expenses.
