NBC Plans New Feature Allowing Fans to Lower In-Game Announcer Audio

Jan 8, 2026, 11:27 AM

Does anyone else get fed up with national announcers while watching their favorite team? You’re not alone — and NBC is finally doing something about it.

NBC announced plans to introduce a new feature that will allow viewers to lower the volume of play-by-play announcers during games while turning up the natural crowd and stadium noise instead.

The feature will debut as part of NBC’s new partnership with Major League Baseball, and it didn’t take long for fans to start asking the obvious question: Can we get this for Sunday Night Football too?

For years, sports fans have overwhelmingly preferred local broadcasts over national play-by-play, and many have wondered how — in 2026 — there still isn’t a simple way to sync a TV broadcast with a local radio call. This new option feels like a meaningful step in that direction, giving viewers more control over how they experience games.

NBC’s streaming platform Peacock will begin rolling out the feature later this year, starting with Sunday Night Baseball and extending to MLB Wild Card games as well.

If fan response is strong, don’t be surprised if this becomes the new standard across major sports broadcasts.
