Snow and Slick Roads Ahead as Colorado Shifts From Christmas Warmth to Winter Weather

Dec 27, 2025, 12:50 PM

According to the 9NEWS Weather Impact Team, Colorado is in for a noticeable shift in weather following a record-warm Christmas. A post-holiday winter storm is expected to move in this weekend, bringing snow and potentially slick travel conditions across much of the state — including the Denver metro area and the mountains.

The storm is expected to arrive Saturday evening and continue through Sunday morning, with snowfall tapering off around midday. Forecasters say this system could become the second-largest snowfall of the season so far.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team reports that several inches of snow could fall across parts of Colorado, prompting warnings from both the Colorado State Patrol and AAA Colorado for drivers to prepare ahead of time — or avoid travel altogether if possible.

“Winter is here. There will be a storm, and in Colorado they can hit without warning — which is why you really have to winterize,” said Skyler McKinley, Regional Public Affairs Director for AAA in Colorado, North Dakota, and Minnesota. “If you’ve had one of those tire pressure warning lights come on, you can’t ignore it.”

Expected Snowfall Totals

  • Northern Mountains: 7+ inches

  • Foothills: 2–4 inches

  • Palmer Divide: 2–4 inches

  • Denver Metro: 1–2 inches

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, leave extra space between vehicles, and prepare for changing road conditions throughout the weekend.
