NORAD asks for volunteers to help kids track Santa by answering phones

If you’re having trouble getting into the Christmas spirit like many others this year, this could help!

The North America Aerospace Defense Command in Colorado Springs is looking for volunteers to help track Santa on Christmas Eve.

NORAD is recruiting 1,000 volunteers who are at least 15-years-old and have a REAL ID or other federally compliant form of identification to accept calls as children search for Santa on Dec. 24.

Two-hour time slots for volunteers are available from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the NTS Operations Center, Bldg. 123, Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs. Each volunteer is permitted to sign up for only one two-hour slot on Christmas Eve.

NORAD, which has its headquarters in Colorado Springs, has tracked Santa as he traverses the globe since 1955. On Christmas Eve in 2024, NORADSanta.org received approximately 32 million views, and its call center volunteers answered about 380,000 calls.

The call center opens at 4 a.m. MT, Dec. 24 at 877-Hi-NORAD (877-446-6723).

New in 2025, people can call into the NORAD operations center directly through a free calling option on the website, allowing millions overseas to call NORAD for updates on Santa’s journey.
