Nuggets keep core intact with Christian Braun’s new contract

Just three days before tipoff, the Denver Nuggets and Christian Braun agreed to terms on a five-year, $125 million contract extension Monday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Nuggets haven’t been short on big moves this offseason — including parting ways with longtime head coach Michael Malone with four games left in the season, and trading Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets this summer. Denver looked to solidify its core before opening night in San Francisco on Thursday. With Braun now under contract, the Nuggets have their starting five locked in through the end of the 2027 season: Braun, Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Cameron Johnson.

Braun, 24, was the Nuggets’ first-round pick in 2022 out of Kansas. He’s coming off the best season of his young career after stepping into the starting shooting guard role following Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s departure last summer. During the 2024–25 season, Braun posted career highs in field goal percentage (58.0 percent) and three-point percentage (39.7 percent) while doubling his scoring average from 7.3 to 15.4 points per game.

Braun recently said he doesn’t “want to be anywhere besides being a Denver Nugget” — a sentiment that now rings even truer.

The Nuggets open the season Thursday night against Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors at 8 p.m. MT, before returning home for their Ball Arena debut Saturday against the Phoenix Suns.
