The Colorado Rockies drafted the son of one of their best players ever

My favorite moment in Colorado Rockies‘ history will likely always be the Matt Holliday slide into home plate with his face to send the team to the Playoffs after defeating the Padres in an extra 163rd game during the 2007 season. Holliday provided many memories like that throughout his career, and now a new Holliday will have his chance in purple!
The Rockies took Ethan Holliday, the son of Matt, with the No. 4 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft on Sunday evening.
Ethan and his brother Jackson, who plays for the Baltimore Orioles, used to be regulars at their dad’s games in Denver while growing up, before dad left the team in 2018.
Ethan was named the Gatorade Oklahoma Baseball Player of the Year and was rated as the top high school prospect in all of baseball. He is committed to Oklahoma State, but with such a high selection in the draft, is expected to go pro, according to the MLB. It’s anyone’s guess on how soon he’ll make the big league team and play for the Rockies.
