It seems like Denver has quietly changed the name of the ’16th Street Mall’

When I was a kid growing up in Colorado the 16th Street Mall was one of the coolest, hip places to hang out. Sadly as time has gone on, crime has increased, and malls have become less trendy, the place where so many gathered is now a place most try to avoid. However, those in charge are trying to fix that!
If you’ve been in the area recently you’ve seen the major construction projects happening, but a simple rebrand seems to also be part of the plan to get more people back.
Construction is scheduled to be done later this summer, and as Downtown Denver promotes the reopening they been saying “16th Street Summer Kickoff” on social media and on its summerindenver.com website. They mention 16th Street seven times on their homepage with no mention of “mall.”
The Downtown Denver Partnership announced in October it hired a London-based global branding agency to create a brand for the 16th Street Mall within a $100,000 budget ahead of its reopening.
It sure seems as though one of their first strategies is to get rid of the word mall, but there is no official word from the Downtown Denver Partnership.
