Sunflowers are back in Denver, but the one’s at DIA are off-limits – Here’s some that aren’t

I get how important the perfect Instagram photo is, and sunflowers can help create that. However, not all sunflowers are free game in the Denver-area…

There are acres of sunflowers around Denver International Airport, and it may be tempting to hop a fence for a picture, but don’t do it. The land on which the sunflowers grow is private property, owned by the airport and leased by the farmer who plants the crop. Touching the flowers, walking in the fields, or even taking sunflower heads for souvenirs is not allowed.

That being said, there are places to (legally) be amongst the beautiful flowers.

The Bee Hugger Farm, 12590 Ute Highway in Longmont

Open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk, the farm allows visitors to pick sunflowers and pay on a donation basis using Venmo or cash. No appointment is necessary to enjoy the flowers, feed the animals, climb tractors, or buy fresh honey. However, if you’re a professional photographer, you’ll need to schedule an appointment and pay a fee.

Sunflower Farm, 11150 Prospect Road in Longmont

Farmfest events are held on most weekends in August and September from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is $18, with free entry for babies under 12 months. Farmfest offers more than just sunflowers, visitors can enjoy animals, swings, tractors, and more. On Wednesday evenings in August and Friday evenings in September and October, the farm hosts Farmfest Music Evenings from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., complete with live music, food trucks, and local vendors. Entry for these events is $27, and reservations are required.

Anderson Farms, 6728 County Rd 3 1/4 in Erie

15 acres of sunflower fields, featuring over 50 varieties of sunflowers. The farm is open to visitors Thursday through Sunday until August 24, offering strolls through the fields, private campfire site rentals, and even sunflower pick-and-paint classes. Prices for these experiences vary, with options for couples, individuals, and kids. In addition to sunflowers, Anderson Farms offers unique experiences like unicorn rides for kids and yoga classes amidst the flowers.
