Denver’s dog food plant has been sued for being too stinky – Here’s what their lawyers say

If you’ve spent any time at all in Denver you know that there’s a portion of the I-70 area in town that stinks bad. It’s thanks to the Nestle Purina pet food plant that has been stinking up the area since it started making pet food there in 1972. Yet people who live there say it’s so bad that they are suing.

On May 28th, a class-action lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court of Colorado alleging that noxious fumes from the pet food plant are so bad that people who live nearby should be compensated for their loss of property value and quality of life.

Nearly three months later, attorneys representing the plant have responded to the lawsuit denying all the claims. They say in part that “Many putative class members acquired their properties with full knowledge that the properties were located near industrial and manufacturing facilities, including, but not limited to, NPPC’s Facility.” Also referring to the smell as “subjective”, and asking whether the plant itself is solely responsible for the “highly odiferous” environment.

Of course the plant is what stinks, but anyone who lives nearby knew what they were getting into also… This could get interesting!
