A ‘Supergirl’ Movie Is In The Works

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s “Supergirl” coming to the silver screen.

News broke this week that Warner Bros. and DC Films are developing a movie based on Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, the powerful, crime-fighting cousin of Superman. Screenwriter Oren Uziel, one of the scribes behind “22 Jump Street” and “Cloverfield Paradox,” has been tapped to write the script for the “Supergirl” film, but not much else is known about the project.

A producer has yet to sign on to the “Supergirl” project. It’s also unknown who will star in the titular role, which has been played by Melissa Benoist in The CW’s hit series “Supergirl,” now heading into its fourth season.

“Supergirl” will be Warner Bros.’ latest foray into female-led superhero movies.  The studio is currently developing  “Birds of Prey” and “Wonder Women 1984,” which are both set to come out next year. “Batgirl” is also moving ahead now that “Bumblebee” screenwriter Christina Hodson will pen the script following Joss Whedon’s exit.

This isn’t the first time the Krypton-born superheroine has been featured on the silver screen. Actor Helen Slater played Supergirl, who made her debut in 1959’s “Action Comics” No. 252, in the 1984 film of the same name. The movie also starred Faye Dunaway, who played Supergirl’s archenemy, Selena.

“Supergirl” is bound to make a splash in theaters. Are you excited for the new “Supergirl” feature?
